Location Matthews Avenue, Airport West
The Department of Transport and Planning and Yarra Trams regularly carry out maintenance and renewal works
across the network to improve operations and passenger experience. We upgraded some of the poles and tram
powerlines along Matthews Avenue in January. To continue to deliver safe and reliable tram services to the area, we
need to upgrade the remaining poles and tram powerlines.
Where?
Works will happen in the tram reserve along Matthews
Avenue, between Fullarton Road and Hood Street,
Airport West.
When?
Works will happen in the tram reserve along Matthews
Avenue, between Fullarton Road and Hood Street,
Airport West.
What is happening?
– Setting up work areas including traffic management.
– Locating underground services and installing conduits
and cables.
– Removing old and installing new tram powerlines and
poles.
– Reinstating the works area.
What to expect?
– Vehicles, machinery, and contractors on site.
– Mostly low to medium levels of noise. High levels of
noise are expected when we are removing poles.
– English Street off-ramp will be closed from 10pm to
5am during Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the works.
– Temporary removal of adjacent on-street parking
along Matthews Avenue.
– There will be service changes to Tram Route 59 during
Stage 1 and Stage 2 of these works.

open during the works. Please continue to support your
local businesses during these essential infrastructure
works.
Please follow signage and traffic management around
the work zone and allow extra time when planning your
journey.
